Traditional Genmaicha was created during one of the bleakest of times, right after the war, when Japan had little food or tea. Tea is such a part of Japanese life that when faced with the option of not enough tea for a day or not enough food they choose TEA and added the grain to stretch the tea.

By contrast Matcha was reserved for only the royal or noble with many "common" people never experiencing the ceremonial luxury of preparing and receving this fine tea powder.

Today we have Genmaicha Midori or Green Genmaicha The humble Genmaicha married with the noble Matcha creating a very unique experience!

Cup after cup remains rather consistent with the Sencha flavor more pronounced over a Shizuoka style and the toasty flavor reminiscent of popcorn that remains unchanged. Comapred to our Organic Genmaicha Midori from Kyoto this tea has less Genmai, a lighter Matcha dust and a richer Sencha flavor.
