Traditional Genmaicha was created during one of the bleakest of times, right after the war, when Japan had little food or tea. Tea is such a part of Japanese life that when faced with the option of not enough tea for a day or not enough food they choose TEA and added the grain genmai to stretch the tea.

By contrast Matcha was reserved for only the royal or noble with many "common" people never experiencing the ceremonial luxury of preparing and receiving this fine tea powder.
Today we have Genmaicha Midori or Green Genmaicha. The humble Genmaicha married with the noble Matcha creating a very unique experience!

As with the difference in the ingredients this one tea will yield two very different cups. Your first will be very emerald green and have the sweetness of the matcha. The second or third cup with the Matcha now “rinsed off” will be more golden in color and the warm toasty flavor of the Genmai will become more pronounced.

Both delightful and a reminder to celebrate the differences in the world!
This tea is Organic and as a result the Matcha is not as bright of a green as you will find with our other two Genimacha Midori options.
