The unicorn has been described as fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful creature, his single horn was said to neutralize poison. Maybe it was this fabulous beast that inspired the name “Unicorn Grass” given to this very special plant also called crab legs, which is more what its’ jointed stems look like. Growing as a parasitic plant only on ancient tea trees it looks somewhat like a moss grass on the huge tree branches but it is really not a grass at all and once removed, clearly a jointed stem appears. Unicorn Grass is highly regarded in China and is the emblem of the Ancient Tea Tree region of Jing Mai. Traditional Chinese Medicine tells us Unicorn Grass is believed to have medicinal properties which can cleanse body poisons, thin blood and lower blood pressure. Recent studies in Asia report it to be affective in supporting kidney infections and an aid in preventing cancer.
